My Basketball Booklist
Happy New Year to you and all the best for 2012! It’s going to be a great year and I hope you have spent the last week with your loved ones and had a good time!
To start this year off right, I’d like to share with you my list of coaching books I’ve gathered over the time and which are well worth the read. A lot of you have been asking me on which books I’d recommend for getting a good start into coaching or for drills.
These are all books I have written in English. I still got a bunch of German books, which I didn’t list here. So, here it is … the list of basketball books in my shelf, which will be updated frequently.
Read MoreHow Coaches can influence Referees
As a coach you have to deal with a lot of different people. I have touched about how to deal with referees in one of my previous articles, so now I’d like to highlight some of the common methods used by coaches to influence the decision-making of refs.
A couple of referees I conduct games with have opened a Facebook group to exchange information, as well as tips for gameday from the ref’s side of the fence. Being a coach myself I have used a few methods to try and influence a call. Let’s be honest, which coach hasn’t in one way or the other?
Read MoreA Tough Loss
Yesterday we’ve lost our first game this season by only one point. If you have ever gone through a situation like this, then you know, how the mood was right after the game. Barely anyone had something to say. This game weighed in even more than other games, as our direct competitor now had an advantage for the runner-up spot to the next league. Read MoreHow to Box Out in Basketball
Basketball is one of the most well-liked, and widely sighted, sports in the world and there are many techniques and practices such a shooting, dribbling, passing and rebounding. In this article I’d like to share some of my thoughts to tackle rebounding and its component: “Boxing Out”.
Box outing an opponent usually happens when a players goes for a rebound on offense and on defende. It is the time when a player tries to position himself first, and disabling the opponent from getting a good position for the rebound. Let’s have a look at what rebounding is all about. According to Wikipedia’s definition, the objective of rebounding is to successfully gain possession of the basketball after a missed field goal or free throw, as it rebounds from the hoop or backboard.
